Starting university is exciting and fun – but it can also be quite daunting. We help our new students settle in to university life by providing support, advice and guidance through our professional support services, the Guild of Students and student mentors.
Most first year undergraduate students start at the University at the end of September; although postgraduate students may have alternative start dates. During September there is a dedicated week for new students to settle in before the start of teaching.
Week 0 is a time for you to start exploring the campus and city, get to know your fellow students, attend school or department introductory events and find out about the range of support and activities available to you.
The Guild is the recognised students’ union, representing all 28,000 students on all our campuses. The Guild works to bring about positive change for students and bring like-minded students together, they run numerous events and there are a variety of different activities and clubs.
Your safety both around campus and in town is an important issue, so be aware of steps you can take to make sure your time here is safe - and enjoy it to the full. To find out more information:
Welcome packs, include a Welcome Guide, registration letter with computer passwords, registration guide, student handbook and other supporting information will be posted out to new students over the summer in time for their September start date.
If you do not receive a pack by the time you come to the University, the guide, handbook and Welcome information are available online, and a pack can be collected from the Great Hall, Aston Webb building from the first Monday in Week 0.
Your identity card will allow you to use the libraries, computer facilities and the Guild of Students. This will be issued to you in your first week.
